Abdel Fattah El Sisi, president, Egypt, has pressed for action to complete a plan to upgrade six ports in the Suez Canal region by June 30, 2018.

In a meeting with Dalia Khorshed, investment minister, Egypt, and Mohab Mamish, chairman, Suez Canal Authority (SCA), El Sisi directed that the SCA coordinate efforts with the private sector to make use of empty platforms at the ports in the Suez Canal region.

Under the plan to upgrade the six ports; namely East Port Said, West port Said, Sokhna, Arish, Tor and Adibiya, new platforms should be established in the Suez Canal region and an electronic system should be applied at the six ports, according to Mamish.

The plan is set to improve services offered at the ports in order to lure new navigation lines.
