Excavations at Hili 8 Excavations at Hili 8

TCA Abu Dhabi Revisit Archaeological Site

Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) has commissioned a project to analyse Hili 8 using the latest techniques and equipment available.

First explored by French archaeologists in the 1970s and 1980s, Hili 8 located near Hili Archaeological Park in Al Ain has provided tentative evidence for the beginnings of date, wheat and barley cultivation 5,000 years ago.

During the excavations, which recently restarted, artefacts, as well as plant and animal remains will be subject to a battery of scientific tests including carbon-14 dating.

The team will also analyse any ancient copper relics found in the area which will then be subjected to isotopic testing to conclude when people began exploiting and trading copper in the UAE.
