Dubai International Airport Releases Advisory for High-Volume Holiday Season, Urges Early Arrival

June 20, 2023 – As the UAE’s summer school break coincides with the upcoming six-day long Eid Al Adha holidays, Dubai International (DXB) is bracing itself for an unprecedented surge in activity in the weeks ahead. Anticipating approximately 3.5 million passengers passing through DXB between June 20 and July 3, with an average of 252,000 travelers daily, Dubai Airports is making necessary preparations for the increased departure traffic. Notably, between June 23 and 25, they expect over a quarter of a million outbound passengers, with Saturday, June 24 projected to be exceptionally busy, as nearly 100,000 passengers are set to depart from DXB. Furthermore, the airport foresees an even busier peak arrival period following the Eid Al Adha holiday, with a record-breaking daily influx of over 305,000 passengers expected on July 2.

Essa Al Shamsi, Senior Vice President of Terminal Operations at Dubai Airports, expressed confidence in the airport’s ability to handle the anticipated surge in passenger numbers. He stated, “Dubai International’s remarkable recovery this year, as evidenced by the impressive traffic growth in the first quarter, is a testament to our readiness. Consequently, we expect this year’s seasonal peaks to be the busiest since 2019, and we are fully preparing ourselves for the challenge.”

To ensure a seamless travel experience during this busy period, Dubai International Airport has issued a series of helpful guidelines. Emirates, one of the leading airlines operating at DXB, advises passengers to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before their flight. They encourage passengers to check-in and obtain their digital boarding passes in advance using the Emirates app or the online check-in service. Passengers can also take advantage of designated drop-off points or self-check-in kiosks at the airport to pre-drop their luggage. It is essential for passengers to familiarize themselves with the latest travel regulations for their respective destinations and ensure all necessary travel documents are prepared ahead of time.

Dubai Airports has also shared additional recommendations to help passengers navigate the holiday rush smoothly. Passengers traveling with flydubai are advised to arrive at the airport at least 4 hours before their departure, while passengers flying with other airlines should arrive no earlier than 3 hours prior to their scheduled departure. Utilizing Smart Gates is highly recommended for passengers with children over the age of 12 to expedite the passport control process. Travelers are reminded to weigh their luggage at home, organize their documents in advance, and be prepared for security checks to minimize stress at the airport. Prohibited items, such as spare batteries and power banks, should be properly packed and carried in hand luggage only.

Furthermore, passengers can take advantage of the Dubai Metro for convenient transportation to and from Terminals 1 and 3, as operating hours are typically extended during the Eid holidays. Access to the arrivals’ forecourts in both terminals is restricted to authorized vehicles, and visitors are advised to utilize designated car parks or valet services when picking up guests.

By adhering to these guidelines and arriving early, passengers can contribute to a hassle-free travel experience during the bustling holiday season at Dubai International Airport.
