Enhancing Bangkok’s rising status on international gastronomic scene, 11 globally-acclaimed chefs from eight countries are preparing for the 18th annual World Gourmet Festival to be held at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel on September 04 – 10.

According to the latest figures from Mastercard Asia-Pacific Destinations Index 2017, Bangkok remains the most visited city among 171 destinations in 22 countries of the region, which altogether reported 339.2 million tourists in 2016.

With 19.3 million international overnight arrivals in 2016, the Thai capital surpassed Singapore which had attracted 13.1 million visitors.

The destination also topped the list of total nights stayed with 87.6 million nights, demonstrating the trend of longer trips among visitors to the region.

In terms of overall tourism expenditure, the city took second place with USD12.7 billion tourism spending, overtaken by Singapore where travellers spent USD15.4 billion in 2016.

With China representing the main source market for visitors to Bangkok, the figures show the significance of the whole region for the global tourism industry.
