The event will feature competitions covering 16 sports, wrapping up with a mixed 4x100 m relay.
Speaking at a recent press conference, Vadim Devyatovsky, chairman, Belarus Athletics Federation, said a memorandum of cooperation had already been signed with the Association of Balkan Athletic Federations.
Interest for the June 22 event has also been demonstrated by Persian Gulf countries, Poland, and another strong national team will join the event, according to Devyatovsky.
“We hope that the world-renowned athletes will come here,” added Devyatovsky.
Speaking at the same event, Vyacheslav Durnov, first deputy minister, sport and tourism, Belarus, noted the June 21 official opening would come exactly a year before Minsk hosted the 2019 European Games, meaning that the countdown to the June 21 – June 30, 2019 event will also be launched. “Work on the reconstruction of Dinamo Stadium is on schedule, and the builders assured us the stadium will be completed by June 01,” concluded Durnov.
