For the third consecutive year, Gatwick Airport hosted the Sussex and Surrey FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) LEGO League regional tournament, which saw teams of students from eight schools in the region compete to build LEGO robots.

FIRST LEGO League is an international robotics-based competition set to excite young people aged nine to 16 years about science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The initiative, a collaboration between FIRST and LEGO, took place at the Sofitel London Gatwick, North Terminal.

The event was attended by 10 students from each school that had up to 10 weeks before the tournament to build and program their robots around this year's Animal Allies theme before putting them through their paces to complete a set of missions on the thematic play surface.
