ERA Welcomes Revised EU Drone Rules

European Regions Airline Association (ERA) welcomed European Council’s adoption of updated European Union (EU) aviation safety rules aiming to increase efficiency and lower costs, while bringing about greater competitiveness and less administration for airspace users.

As noted by ERA, the updates include the first ever EU-wide rules for civil drones of all sizes.

Montserrat Barriga, director general, ERA, commented, “We especially commend the first ever EU-wide rules to integrate civil drones into European airspace in a safe manner.”

She noted that, in the past, many EU member states employed different rules over the use of drones and as such, there was a lack of harmonious approach on safety while, as the European skies become busier, new rules were necessary to ensure a safer airspace.
