While regions across Spain, Italy and France are among the most favoured EU destinations, the US and Turkey are two of the most popular destinations outside of the region.
In 2015, the US accounted for 13.8 percent of extra-EU nights by EU tourists, while 10.4 percent was attributed to Turkey.
The most popular holiday destination for EU residents was within their own country, accounting for 58 percent of all nights, followed by another EU member state with 26 percent.
