The Annual Travel Monitor for 2017 – Early Edition released by Pacific Asia Travel Association revealed that some 597 million travellers explored 47 Asia Pacific destinations in 2016, a three percent year-on-year increase.

Overall, 17 destinations achieved double digit growth in arrivals, among which Nepal and South Korea led the way with a boost of more than 30 percent over 2015, while Mongolia, Japan and Vietnam succeeded with over 20 percent year-on-year increases.

Overall, Asia was the front runner, welcoming almost 436 million international visitors, followed by Americas and the Pacific, which attracted close to 147 million and 24.5 million travellers, respectively.

Furthermore, China and Hong Kong represented Asia Pacific's strongest source markets, adding 108.5 million and 93.7 million arrivals, correspondingly.
