Airports Council International (ACI) has revealed that in 2016, the air transport industry saw a growth in both passenger and cargo traffic, despite global challenges.Overall, passenger traffic rose 5.5 percent, with international traffic up 6.5 percent year-on-year, compared to a 4.9 percent jump in domestic travel.

With the exception of Africa, all regions recorded growth, with the Middle East and Asia Pacific leading the way with a boost of nine percent.

Meanwhile, air freight traffic grew 3.5 percent in the year under review, fuelled by a 8.9 percent surge in December 2016 and an increase in volumes at airports in Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific, all rising above 10 percent in December 2016.
