ABT Educates on Classical Dance

On June 06, 3,500 students from New York City’s public schools visited Metropolitan Opera House in order to attend American Ballet Theatre’s (ABT) Young People’s Ballet Workshop.

The one-hour programme included performances by Misty Copeland, principal dancer, ABT, and Alexandre Hammoudi, soloist, ABT who presented a mime demonstration from Swan Lake.

In addition, students had the opportunity to enjoy variations from some of ABT’s most popular productions including Le Corsaire, The Sleeping Beauty and Alexei Ratmansky's all-new production Whipped Cream.

The workshop also included original pieces performed by ABT’s students participating in Make a Ballet programme, an initiative launched with the aim to offer young dancers the opportunity to design, choreograph, construct, produce and perform their own original dance.
