Marriott Reveals Top Summer Destinations for 2018

Marriott International’s newly released Second Annual US Summer Travel Trends Report says travellers are favouring cities over beaches this summer and planning to take an average of two trips.

The top five destinations for this summer’s most heavily travelled weekends, are New York City, Orlando, Atlanta, Chicago and San Diego for Memorial Day Weekend. Houston, New York City, Orlando, Seattle and Chicago are at the top for Independence Day exploration.

The five most booked cities for summertime travel are New York City, Chicago, Orlando, Atlanta and Seattle.

Marriott’s study also found that, similar to international Fourth of July travel, Toronto and Vancouver were two of the top choices for international non-holiday summer weekend getaways.

Brian King, global officer, digital, distribution and global sales, Marriott International, commented, “Pack your walking shoes because for the second year in a row, city destinations are at the top of travellers’ lists. Travellers are heading to the cities to soak up the summer sun in urban destinations like New York City and Chicago which come alive in the summer with amazing food, festivals, and live outdoor concerts.”
