Aiming to promote animal conservation while also transforming the country’s wildlife and safari offering, African Parks and Malawi Department of National Parks and Wildlife have collaboratively completed the 500 Elephants initiative.

The programme involved moving up to 500 elephants as well as around 1,500 other animals from Liwonde National Park and Majete Wildlife Reserve to Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve.

As well as helping to safeguard the future of these animals, the initiative helped Malawi to become one of the most complete destinations in Africa offering unique wildlife experiences of the highest quality.

The project is said to be one of the largest ever translocation of elephants to a single reserve.
